NEW MINI-DATA-BOX – TOUGH PLASTIC ENCLOSURES FOR SENSORS

EASYTEC looks smart but MINI-DATA-BOX is even more elegant – thanks to bevelled lid corners that create a ‘diamond cut’ design. They also reduce weight. As the enclosure’s designer Martin Nussberger of polyform Industrie Design put it, MINI-DATA-BOX is “a little something – hardly visible but present wherever it is needed, possibly the key building block in a system that would not work without this little something.”

Its design “takes away the angularity of the object thanks to its slightly sloping corners – and on the other hand it is a securely mounted, robust enclosure, whose faceted top underlines the technical quality and function of your product in its play of light, like the cut of a diamond.”

And where EASYTEC is available only with flanges, MINI-DATA-BOX can be specified either with or without them. That matters because it offers you greater choice. And it ensures continuity of design language where flanged and flangeless enclosures are being installed within close proximity of each other. Aesthetics matter more than ever in today’s smart industrial locations as they seek to create the future; the Maclaren Technology Centre looks so futuristic that it was used as a Star Wars movie location (Coruscant Spaceport in the new TV series Star Wars: Andor) .

New MINI-DATA-BOX is available in two shapes: S (square) and E (‘edge’/rectangular), both of which offer plenty of flat surfaces for interfaces. Each shape is available in two heights – 15 mm and 20 mm – and in two plan sizes:

  • S – 40 x 40 mm and 50 x 50 mm
  • E – 60 x 40 mm and 70 x 50 mm.

MINI-DATA-BOX may be small but it’s very robust thanks to an all-round tongue-and-groove joint which strengthens the construction. IP 65 ingress protection is optional – offering complete protection from dust ingress and a good degree of protection against jets of water (12.5 litres/minute for at least 15 minutes; 30kPa at a distance of three metres). The enclosures are moulded from an ASA+PC-FR blend:

  • UV-stable ASA gives extra protection against the sun’s rays
  • tough polycarbonate adds strength
  • the flame resistance is UL 94 V-0 – self-extinguishing, burning stops within 10 seconds, no flaming drips. Find out more about flammability ratings.

Inside there are fixing supports for PCBs and components in both the top and bottom sections. MINI-DATA-BOX is assembled using stainless steel tamperproof Torx screws, a key requirement for medical electronics. The enclosures can be specified in two standard colours – either traffic white (RAL 9016) or anthracite grey (RAL 7016). Custom colours are available on request.
